Edly-Allen Legislation Brings Light to Food Insecurity in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A resolution spearheaded by state Rep. Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville, takes aim at educating and creating greater public awareness of how food insecurity affects the residents of Illinois.

“One in nine Illinoisans struggle with food insecurity, and for children, that disparity is even worse, as over 500,000 Illinois children go hungry each day,” said Edly-Allen. “Food insecurity, whether it’s temporary or long-term, impacts every single community. There are many great charities, food pantries and organizations that need our help in making sure that no person ever has to go hungry.”

Edly-Allen’s House Resolution 109 declares November “Food Pantry Donation Month” in an effort to bring a greater public awareness to food insecurity and encourage communities throughout the state to donate, advocate and volunteer with their local food pantries.

“Fighting food insecurity begins with the small actions of one person,” Edly-Allen added. “It’s up to all of us to do our part to support the local organizations that help families, children and seniors in our community stay healthy.”
