LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. – The Respiratory Health Association recently named state Rep. Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville, a “Lung Health Leader” for her work advancing legislation that protects the health and well-being of Illinoisans.

“My family is one of millions that has been touched by lung cancer,” said Edly-Allen. “Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer in the world, yet it is the least funded. Increasing public awareness and education while passing meaningful legislation that takes concrete steps forward to improve the quality of our air, the efficiency and affordability of our health care system, and protect the lung health of all Illinoisans is something that is near and dear to my heart.”

Edly-Allen sponsored Illinois’ Tobacco 21 law to raise the legal age for tobacco use to 21-years-old. She is currently working with public health officials and advocates to reduce youth vaping, which has been linked to respiratory health problems and deaths across the country, as well as to increase public awareness on its dangers.
