“I am honored to serve on this new task force and continue my work to make a safer communities in Illinois,” Willis said. “We owe it to Illinois families to take action and put in safeguards that prevent more tragedies from happening.”
Willis, along with others, are now members of the new and strategic House Firearm Public Awareness Task Force. As a member, Willis will provide her knowledge from numerous gun safety initiatives to guide the bipartisan task force in developing new legislation to crack down on gun crimes and keep families safe.
Willis sponsored Senate Bill 1966, the Fix the FOID Act, which was a result of negotiations between gun safety advocates and law enforcement officials and aims to close loopholes and streamline and improve existing law to help law enforcement keep firearms out of the hands of criminals. She also sponsored legislation to ban “ghost,” or untraceable, guns with her House Bill 2253 and create more secure gun storage rules with House Bill 2254.
“Good ideas are going to come from this task force, and I look forward to work with both my Democratic and Republican colleagues on doing what is best for Illinois families,” Willis said. “Safety must be our top concern, and that principle will help guide our policy discussions toward proposing worthy legislation.”
