GURNEE, Ill. – The Northwest Suburban Alliance on Domestic Violence recognized state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, for her work on domestic violence by presenting her with the Friends of the Alliance Award at the Wendell Jones Award Luncheon at Harper College in Palatine.

“The domestic abuse resources in our community changed my life forever, and I’m unspeakably proud and humbled to now be writing legislation to expand those same resources so that every woman and child can access the help that I did,” said Mason. “I am grateful to the Northwest Suburban Alliance on Domestic Violence for honoring me with this award, and I am deeply thankful to them for the work they do to fight domestic abuse every day.”

The Friends of the Alliance Award is presented to an individual each year to recognize his or her contributions to combatting domestic violence. Mason is currently serving on the board of A Safe Place, a domestic violence shelter in her district, and introduced legislation to raise awareness of all forms of domestic violence and make it easier for survivors to access critical resources.
