GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, recently hosted a property tax assessment seminar to help local homeowners understand the property tax system and the assessment appeal process.
“Homeowners in DuPage County pay some of the highest property taxes in the country, and our local homeowners deserve a full explanation of the assessment process and where their tax dollars go,” said Costa Howard. “I will continue working with my colleagues across the aisle to provide real property tax relief while ensuring public investment in education, public safety and local infrastructure projects.”
As a freshman representative, Costa Howard passed bipartisan legislation to close a legal loophole that had allowed tenants of the DuPage Airport Authority to skip out on nearly $770,000 in overdue property tax payments – forcing other DuPage County taxpayers to pick up the cost. Under the new law, airport tenants that don’t pay their fair share will face hefty fines. As a part of her continued efforts to advocate for DuPage County homeowners, Costa Howard was recently appointed to the state’s newly formed Property Tax Relief Task Force.
