EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – To keep constituents informed about changes to higher education in Illinois, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, will host her next Higher Education Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Edwardsville Public Library, located at 112 S. Kansas St.
“As we begin the school year, many high school students are beginning to look for what they want to do after high school. This is the perfect time to update community members about what’s going on in Illinois in regards to higher education,” Stuart said. “Even if students aren’t interested in attending a 4-year university, there are plenty of other options for higher education throughout Illinois, especially surrounding our district.”
Numerous bills have been signed into law this year including permitting both students from the SIU Board of Trustees to act as voting members and promoting accessibility to FAFSA through high schools. As a former SIUe professor and member of the Higher Education Committee in Springfield, Stuart often looks for opportunities to gain feedback and answer questions of constituents in her district.
“This Advisory Committee will also focus on SIUe and the legislative changes that were signed into law this summer,” Stuart continued. “For example, the university can now take advantage of longer energy contracts to utilize solar energy on campus. There are many bills that will positively impact our area that I want our community to know about.”
