GURNEE, Ill. – Following a week of heavy rain, state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, brought pizza and snacks to 150 residents assembling sandbags for flood prevention at Warren Township High School O’Plaine Campus in Gurnee on Saturday.
“When I heard there was a call for volunteers, I immediately wanted to find a way to help support them and their efforts to keep our community safe,” said Mason. “It is inspiring to see so many of our residents come together on such short notice in a time of need. I’d like to thank the community members who took time out of their weekends to volunteer, and I’d like to thank Jimano’s Pizzeria and Kaiser’s Pizza & Pub for donating to support the compassionate work of our residents.”
Shortly after a Saturday morning call to action by the Village of Gurnee, residents worked together to create more than 10,000 sandbags to prevent additional flood damage. The assembled sandbags were distributed to homes and businesses in Gurnee by the Village’s public works department.
