RED BUD, Ill. – State Rep. Nathan Reitz, D-Steeleville, is highlighting a package of legislation that will boost investment in businesses that invest in Illinois by prioritizing local jobs and keep taxpayer dollars in the state.

“To grow our local economy and help create new jobs in Southern Illinois, it is important for our taxpayer dollars to be invested right here in our state,” said Reitz. “I encourage lawmakers to pass this package to ensure our taxpayer dollars are being used to purchase Illinois- and American-made goods, providing new employment opportunities for workers here in our state.”

Reitz is supportive of House Bill 356, which requires state agencies to purchase American-made products in the process of buying products or goods, and House Bill 357, which gives preference to products manufactured in Illinois in the state’s purchasing process whenever possible. If there is not a viable option to purchase Illinois-specific products, state agencies would be required to purchase American-made products.

“I am fighting to build a stronger Illinois by building a stronger middle class, so I understand we must continue to support local jobs and manufacturers by prioritizing Illinois-made goods,” continued Reitz.  “This legislation will help boost our local economy and create new jobs and opportunities for residents of Southern Illinois.”
