GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – To help local homeowners understand the property tax system and the assessment appeal process, state Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, is hosting a property tax assessment seminar next week.

“Homeowners in DuPage County pay some of the highest property taxes in the country,” said Costa Howard. “It’s important for every taxpayer to understand how this complicated system works and learn what you can do to make sure you’re not paying more than your own fair share. I’m very pleased that the assessors of Lisle, Milton, and York Townships have agreed to take part in this seminar, explain the assessment process, and talk to homeowners about how to file an appeal if they think their assessments are too high.”

The property tax seminar will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the College of DuPage in Room 1234 of the Health and Science Center, at 425 Fawell Blvd.

“I hope that homeowners will join us, learn more about the property tax cycle, and share ideas on what the state of Illinois should do to fix our property tax system,” Costa Howard said. “As a member of the state’s new Property Tax Task Force, I’m looking for smart, creative solutions that will help to ease the property tax burden on homeowners, here in the 48th District and throughout our state.”
