AURORA, Ill. – To help local residents find unclaimed money, state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is inviting constituents to her I-Cash event with State Treasurer Mike Frerichs’ office on Saturday, Sept. 14th from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Aurora Police Department community meeting room, located at 1200 E. Indian Trail Rd. in Aurora.

“The I-Cash program that the treasurer’s office has is a great resource for our state, as there are thousands of people each year who get back money that they may have forgotten they had, and I look forward to bringing this service to my constituents,” said Hernandez. “All you need to do is bring in a valid ID and experts will look into the state database, which currently holds over $2.9 billion in unclaimed funds.”

Business owners and residents can reclaim various different forms of funds, including checking and savings accounts, insurance checks, payroll checks, money orders and uncashed checks. According to the treasurer’s office, 1 in 4 people who search for unclaimed property through the state database will find property to claim. The event and claims process is free and open to the public.

“Increasing public awareness of this program will help the hard-working families in our community find any money that may be owed to them,” said Hernandez. “Checking for unclaimed funds at an I-Cash event is quick and easy, and I encourage all local residents to attend.”
