CHICAGO – State Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, is working with Ald. Jim Gardiner, Cook County Commissioner Bridget Degnen and Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi to host a Property Tax Appeals and Exemptions Workshop for local residents.
“One of the top concerns I hear from families in my community is the issue of rising property taxes,” Andrade said. “I’m working with our local officials to bring assistance directly to local families and help them learn about the appeal process.”
Andrade’s event is free and open to the public. Please bring a copy of your recent property tax bill or your property index number (PIN). Representatives from assessor’s office will be on hard to help homeowners learn about the basics of property assessments, how to appeal the assessment and what exemptions are available.
This spring, Andrade worked to rein in skyrocketing property taxes by supporting legislation to eliminate the burdensome requirement that Cook County seniors apply every year for tax relief. Under his plan, seniors can keep their exemptions without reapplying. Andrade also voted to create the Property Tax Relief Task Force, a bipartisan commission that will investigate solutions to cut property taxes, as well as to provide local schools millions of dollars in additional funding so they are less reliant on property taxes.
