Mason’s Measure Protecting Seniors Signed by Governor

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is pleased to announce the enactment of her legislation extending protections for seniors who sign construction contracts with predatory door-to-door salesmen.

“When severe weather hits our community, predatory door-to-door salesmen use it as an opportunity to strongarm seniors into signing unnecessary, unfair construction contracts,” said Mason. “Under previous law, seniors were only given a brief, three-day window to cancel one of these contracts.”

Mason’s measure increases the number of days during which a senior may cancel an unfair contract signed at his or her own home from three days to 15 days.
