LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville, invites local residents to join her newly formed Women’s Issues Citizen Advisory Committee and attend the committee’s first meeting on Thursday, Sep. 5 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Barrington Village Hall, located at 200 S. Hough St. in Barrington.

“Giving women a voice in the legislature is something that is very near to my heart,” said Edly-Allen. “Even though women make up 51% of the state’s population, they only account for 37% of the legislators in the Illinois House. As others attempt to silence the voice of women, I am committed to working with the women in my community to ensure that every voice is heard and that we are working together to make our communities better for our children.”

This Women’s Advisory Council meeting is an opportunity for Edly-Allen to provide an update on the recent spring legislative session and to discuss new ideas to help Illinois women. This informal meeting is free and open to the public, and RSVPs are encouraged.

“As women’s rights are under attack across the country, I’m working to ensure that Illinois is a leader in women’s equality,” Edly-Allen added. “Just this year, we passed critical legislation to cement a woman’s ability to be paid equally for equal work, increase protections against workplace harassment and discrimination, and protect a woman’s right to reproductive health care in Illinois, regardless of what extreme politicians in Washington decide to do. We’re a better state when we lift up and support all women, and I’m eager to hear the ideas from my community while I am home from the Capitol.”
