BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – State Rep. Daniel Didech, D-Buffalo Grove, is continuing his fight for real property tax relief as a member of the newly created Illinois Property Tax Relief Task Force, which will work to address the rising property tax burden facing middle-class families and seniors.
“When I was the supervisor of Vernon Township, my number one priority was to reduce the property tax burden forced onto local families and return that money to taxpayers. These efforts were successful, but it was clear more still needed to be done to provide homeowners with long-lasting relief,” said Didech. “To make our state competitive economically and help middle-class families stay in their homes, we need to enact meaningful reforms.”
In his first term in office, Didech passed multiple pieces of legislation aimed at providing property tax relief to Illinois residents. He served as the chief House sponsor of Senate Bill 39, which creates a statewide Property Tax Relief Fund, allowing the state to provide direct relief to taxpayers for the first time. He also served as the chief House sponsor of Senate Bill 90, which consolidates unnecessary drainage districts that levy property taxes on homeowners.
Didech also sponsored Senate Bill 1932, now law, which creates the Illinois Property Tax Relief Task Force. The bipartisan group formed under the new law will work towards solutions that provide real property tax relief to homeowners throughout the state.
“Our families pay some of the highest property taxes in the country,” said Didech. “I ran for office because it was time that somebody stepped up and said, ‘enough is enough’ and demanded real property tax relief. I’m excited to have the opportunity to continue the fight for middle-class families as part of this task force.”
