CHICAGO, Ill. – Continuing her efforts to fight for property tax relief for local homeowners and working families, state Rep. Celina Villanueva, D-Chicago, has been appointed to the Property Tax Relief Task Force this week after Governor J.B. Pritzker signed legislation backed by Villanueva.
“Property taxes are becoming unaffordable for many working families in my community,” said Villanueva. “I will do everything I can while on this task force to fight for real solutions that will provide real property tax relief to homeowners.”
Villanueva backed Senate Bill 1932 to create the bi-partisan Property Tax Relief Task Force. She will join the task force to review best practices in public policy strategies to create short and long term property tax relief for middle class families. The task force will work with the Department of Revenue and will collaborate with the State Board of Education and the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget as necessary. The task force is expected to deliver a report to the Illinois General Assembly with recommendations by the end of the year.
“Working families can’t afford to pay more in taxes every year,” said Villanueva. “It is our responsibility on the task force to figure out a system that helps everyone and doesn’t punish our most vulnerable residents or add any more tax burden onto the working and middle class families of my community.”
