Mason Named Edgar Fellow, Slated to Participate in Distinguished Legislative Training

GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, was one of 40 individuals chosen to participate in this year’s Edgar Fellows Program, a program founded by former Gov. Jim Edgar aimed at developing leadership skills in Illinois lawmakers and civic leaders.

“I was elated to find out I had been chosen to participate in the Edgar Fellows Program,” said Mason. “Gov. Edgar has an immense wealth of knowledge and experience working in Illinois government, and was very successful in rebuilding Illinois during times of crisis through collaborative leadership. I’m eager to hear about his time in office and use what I learn to further expand my skills as a legislator.”

The Edgar Fellows Program takes place at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and includes five days of training aimed at preparing Fellows to collaboratively address issues facing the state of Illinois.

“With all the divisive rhetoric and polarization being touted by radical politicians, the Edgar Fellows Program is more important than ever,” said Mason. “I am thrilled to participate in this bipartisan program that teaches lawmakers the importance of compromise and integrity in state government.”
