Willis to Fight for Middle-Class Property Tax Relief on New Task Force

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Kathleen Willis, D-Northlake, will work to reduce property taxes on middle-class and struggling families as a member of the newly created Property Tax Relief Task Force.

“Too many people pay exorbitant property taxes, and something must be done to deliver on relief,” Willis said. “As a member of the new Property Tax Relief Task Force, I will be a strong voice for homeowners in our area, demanding real solutions to this growing problem.”

Willis supported Senate Bill 1932, which created the Property Tax Relief Task Force. The bill was signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Friday and Willis was chosen to represent the House Democratic Caucus on the panel. Within 90 days, members of the bipartisan task force will present a plan for structural and legislative reforms that will provide both short- and long-term relief for homeowners. 

Willis also backed Senate Bill 39, which was recently signed into law by the governor. This new law establishes the Illinois Property Tax Relief Fund, which will provide annual property tax rebates to middle-class homeowners using funds collected by making millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share.

“I am honored by this appointment and I look forward to working with my House colleagues to put bipartisan ideas forward,” Willis said. “Tax relief is just one way to help build a stronger middle class and a better Illinois.”
