ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – With flooding being an ever-present issue in his district, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is hosting a Flood Proofing Seminar with Avon Township Supervisor Terry Wilke. The seminar, which is being presented by the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission, is Thursday, Aug. 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Round Lake High School, located at 800 High School Drive in Round Lake.

“As we learned in 2017, flooding can devastate property owners across the district,” Yingling said. “One of the best ways to keep flooding from damaging your property is by being proactive and taking steps to floodproof your home or business.”

At the seminar, the Stormwater Management Commission will present rainfall data, provide resources and tools for floodproofing, and discuss stormwater-related issues and concerns from the audience. In addition to this seminar, Yingling has worked to protect his constituents from the harmful effects of flooding. After the areas experienced heavy flooding in 2017, Yingling helped pass legislation that granted income tax credits to property owners who were affected by the floods.

“I have seen first-hand the pain that flooding causes families and business owners,” said Yingling. “We must be prepared for flooding in the future, and seminars like this give residents a great opportunity to be ready and protect themselves when the next big storm comes.”
