CHICAGO – State Rep. Camille Y. Lilly recently joined academic and community leaders for the opening of the University of Illinois at Chicago’s (UIC) Academic and Residential Complex.

“Innovative projects like the Academic and Residential Complex are necessary to help our state’s universities stand apart as forward-thinking institutions in the competitive field of higher education,” Lilly said. “But more importantly, this project was designed with one goal in mind, providing a modern, state-of-the-art learning experience for UIC students.”

This past legislative session, Lilly supported the largest infrastructure investment bill in the history of Illinois, which will provide $45 billion for rebuilding and renewing the state’s infrastructure, including billions for higher education. This will allow colleges and universities in Illinois to pursue projects like UIC’s new Academic and Residential Complex, which will be the university’s first building that simultaneously housing students as well as classrooms. The Academic and Residential Complex is UIC’s first constructed residential hall in over a decade and the first new academic building in nearly 30 years.

“Building a stronger Illinois means investing in education and the infrastructure that supports learning, including higher education,” Lilly said. “With the passage of the infrastructure investment bill, I’m excited to see what other colleges in our state can do to improve their infrastructure based on the standard UIC has set with its new Academic and Residential Complex.”
