SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – As the newest member of the Illinois House of Representatives, state Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, D-Chicago, will join her House Democratic colleagues to build a stronger middle class and better Illinois.
“I am truly honored to serve our community in Springfield and advocate for our families each and every day,” LaPointe said. “A lot of work remains to put Illinois back on track and recover from the wreckage of the last four years, and I am committed to passing policies that lift up middle-class families like advocating for tax relief for the middle class, strengthening our economy and expanding access to human services and affordable health care.”
LaPointe was sworn in as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives last week, serving the 19th House District. She previously worked in the field as a social worker and as a project manager of justice reform at Business and Professional People for the Public Interest, specializing in social and criminal justice. She also worked with the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority as a program manager for Adult Redeploy Illinois.
LaPointe is fighting to lift up middle class families by supporting the Fair Tax that will cut taxes for 99.4% of local taxpayers, protect women’s health care as a fundamental right and fight for services that help seniors and the most vulnerable. She will also fight for criminal justice reforms, environmental protection policies and fight for measures that strengthen unions.
“As Donald Trump and his extreme Washington allies take aim at women’s health care, I will fight his reckless agenda and support polices that expand access to health care, not strip it. I will also fight for policies that provide relief like our desperately needed Fair Tax amendment for local taxpayers and oppose any attempt to tax retirement income,” LaPointe said. “I am inspired by the accomplishments in Springfield this year in addition to the ongoing community building and organizing in the district. Much has been accomplished this year, and it is my goal to contribute to those accomplishments and improve them going forward.”
LaPointe represents the 19th District, which covers portions of Chicago’s Big Oaks, Dunning, Gladstone Park, Jefferson Park, Portage Park, Union Ridge and West Portage Park neighborhoods, and River Grove, Elmwood Park, Norridge and Harwood Heights.
