GRANITE CITY, Ill. – To help residents understand the property tax appeals process, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, is hosting a free property tax appeals seminar with the Granite City Township Assessor, Deborah Gray, to make local residents aware of any exemptions that could lower their property taxes. The seminar will be held on Thursday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Granite City Township Hall. Suite B, located at 2060 Delmar Ave.

“I want to make sure my constituents are taking advantage of the exemptions that exist to help those who need property tax relief the most,” Stuart said, “For example, there are exemptions for our veterans, seniors and other residents who deserve the opportunity to save on their property taxes.”

Stuart’s free property tax seminar will include a presentation from Gray about what exemptions are available and how to begin the appeal process. There will be time after the presentation reserved for questions from attendees. Residents are encouraged to bring a copy of their most recent property tax bills and a valid state ID.

“I encourage any homeowner who is concerned about their property taxes to come to the seminar,” said Stuart, “I always learn something while attending seminars like this due to changes in state and local tax laws each year.”
