DES PLAINES, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is recognizing a recently signed proposal to provide property tax rebates to homeowners.

“There’s no question that high property taxes are a burden on families across our community and state,” Moylan said. “We have to take action to lower bills through a comprehensive approach that also respects our commitment to education and local services that residents depend upon.”

Moylan backed Senate Bill 39, which was recently signed into law by Gov. J.B. Pritzker to establish an Illinois Property Tax Relief Fund. The fund would allow property tax rebates to be provided to homeowners claiming a general homestead exemption. Moylan also supported legislation to create a Property Tax Relief Task Force charged with reviewing best practices and providing recommendations by the end of the year on how to tackle high property tax rates in Illinois.

“We have to move beyond just talking about property taxes and actually take action,” Moylan said. “I remain committed to lowering rates, and I look forward to reviewing the recommendations from the Property Tax Relief Task Force so that we can work in a bipartisan manner to help working families.”
