ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – With the opioid epidemic impacting families across the state, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is hosting a town hall with Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg and Lake County State’s Attorney Mike Nerheim on what state and local government is doing to combat opioid abuse. The event is Monday, July 15 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Round Lake Area Public Library, located at 906 Hart Road in Round Lake.
“Solving an issue as immense as the opioid epidemic requires an enormous amount of work,” said Yingling. “While I work in Springfield to craft and support legislation to combat this crisis, Sheriff Idleburg and State’s Attorney Nerheim have been working hard here at home to mitigate the damage opioids do to our community. I am looking forward to sitting down with them and the community to work together to find solutions to this very pressing issue.”
As state representative, Yingling has worked to help reduce the impact of the opioid crisis on families across Illinois. During this past session, Yingling supported House Bill 163, which would increase oversight of prescription medication and help track the flow of controlled substances like opioids. In addition to his recent legislative work, Yingling also participated in this year’s Drug Take Back Day, which aimed to stop addiction before it can develop by giving residents an opportunity to safely dispose of their unused drugs.
“The safety of my constituents is paramount, and the opioid crisis poses a major threat to the health of many in our community,” said Yingling. “I am committed to being a part of the solution to the opioid epidemic, and I implore all those in the community who have ideas to make their voices heard at this town hall.”
