HILLSIDE, Ill. – State Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch, D-Hillside, is helping local residents apply for property tax relief by hosting a free seminar to learn the step-by-step property tax appeal process this month in Forest Park.
“Local families face a high burden due to constantly rising property taxes,” Welch said. “As I fight to bring long-term property tax relief for working families in Springfield, I also want to help connect residents with ways they can save on their property tax bills immediately.”
Welch’s property tax seminar will take place on Wednesday, July 17 from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Proviso Math and Science Academy, located at 8601 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Forest Park. Officials from the Proviso Township assessor’s office will be on hand to help residents understand the process of appealing the assessed value of their homes. The property value as assessed determines the amount owed on the tax bill, and residents can oftentimes receive a lower assessment upon appeal, leading to a lower tax bill. Attendees are urged to bring their recent property tax bills and valid forms of identification.
“This event will help residents learn more about their property taxes and how they can make an appeal,” Welch said. “I encourage any homeowner that would like to reduce their property taxes to stop by.”
