AURORA, Ill. – State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is showing her support for military families by backing a bill that would expand military discounts to spouses and dependents of military personnel and veterans.
“It is my duty as a legislator to ensure that everyone who has served our country is recognized for their service,” Hernandez said. “While there is no way that we can truly ever repay these individuals, expanding the military discount program to their family and loved ones helps us show our gratitude.”
Hernandez backed Senate Bill 1468, which expands the Veterans’ and Military Discount Program Act to benefit immediate family members of active service members and veterans. The military discount program offers special discounts and services at participating vendors to military personnel and veterans with a valid military ID card. Under this new provision, both spouses and dependents of veterans and service members can receive a state-issued ID card that can also be used to get discounts on goods and services.
“The families of military personnel make countless sacrifices to support their loved ones who have served or are currently serving our country, and they, too, deserve support and recognition,” Hernandez said. “This legislation is just one way to show our immense gratitude and support for service members and their families, and I hope to see more stores participate in this special program.”
