AURORA, Ill. – With the 2020 Census around the corner, state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, recently hosted an informational seminar and premiere of a census video made by community members and students from Nancy Hill Elementary School in Aurora explaining key features and procedures.

“Ensuring that every person participates in the census is extremely important,” said Hernandez. “The information that we receive from the census determines how much money our district will receive from the federal government for things like hospitals, schools, and infrastructure. In addition to the financial importance, the census determines how congressional and state district lines are drawn, so having an undercount could negatively impact representation.”

Hernandez also serves on the U.S. Census Bureau’s Complete the Count Committee in the Aurora area, working to find ways for the entire community to participate in the census. For more information about the upcoming census, please call her constituent service office at 630-270-1848.
