ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – Continuing his efforts to lower property taxes, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is holding a Warren Township Property Tax Seminar with Assessor Charlie Mullin. The seminar will take place on Thursday, June 27 at the Warren Township Center, located at 17801 W. Washington Street in Gurnee at 7 p.m. Attendees will learn about how properties are assessed, and will gain vital information on how to properly appeal their assessment, which can lower their property taxes.
“Property taxes are too high, and middle-class families are struggling to pay the extreme rates,” said Yingling. “One of the ways that property owners can fight their property taxes is by appealing their assessment. I highly encourage all residents to attend this seminar and learn how they can potentially reduce their property taxes.”
Yingling has been a fierce advocate for lowering property taxes throughout his time in the General Assembly. Yingling has led the fight to make the Lake County assessor an elected position, bringing transparency and accountability to the office, as well as consolidating units of local government, both of which would reduce property taxes. Most recently, Yingling was a leading voice in the creation of the Property Tax Commission, which will identify ways for the State of Illinois to reduce the property tax burden on homeowners.
“The main issue I hear from constituents is that their property taxes are too high,” said Yingling. “We have had an abusive and regressive property tax system for too long. I will continue to fight for property tax relief both in Springfield through legislation and in my district through seminars like this one.”
