Stuart Hosts Community Shred Day in Edwardsville to Help Prevent Identity Theft

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – To provide constituents with a free and safe way to destroy sensitive documents, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, hosted a community shred day with state Rep. Monica Bristow, D- Godfrey, and state Sen. Rachelle Crowe, D- Glen Carbon. Outdated documents, like old medical records, old bill statements or mail, can put people at risk for identity theft if not disposed of correctly.

“I am really glad that we were able to provide an opportunity to protect my constituents from identity theft,” Stuart said. “Events like this are very important to me because they provide an opportunity to make sure the community is secure.”

The community shred day was hosted at Lincoln Middle School on June 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. Residents were invited to bring any documents that contain personally identifiable information such as bank statements, outdated medical records, old tax returns, old bills, receipts and credit card applications.
