ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, will be hosting an Ethylene Oxide Day of Action to inform residents about the dangerous chemical that is infiltrating the community. The event will take place on Saturday, June 15 at Yingling’s district office, located at 1919 Illinois Route 83, and will start at 10 a.m. Attendees will hear Yingling’s update on recent ethylene oxide legislation and then go with Yingling to collect petition signatures to stop ethylene oxide.

“Everyone deserves to be able to breathe without having to worry about whether or not they are inhaling dangerous chemicals that may give them cancer,” said Yingling. “The health and safety of our community is of paramount importance to me. Ethylene oxide puts people’s lives in jeopardy, and we need to work together to stop the poisoning of our community.”

Yingling has been a leading voice in the effort to stop ethylene oxide emissions. Yingling pushed for multiple pieces of legislation that would reduce the use of ethylene oxide, including Senate Bill 1852 and Senate Bill 1854, which both passed in the House and the Senate. The Day of Action will be a way for community members to get involved with Yingling in stopping ethylene oxide in their community by engaging other residents about the issue.

“While much has been accomplished to reduce the use of ethylene oxide, there is still much work that needs to be done,” said Yingling. “First and foremost, people need to be aware of the issue and the solutions being put forth. I invite everyone to my Day of Action to help increase community awareness of this critical issue.”
