Hernandez Back Fairer Tax Rates to Reduce Burden on Middle Class Families

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, issued the following statement after the House approved the Fair Tax rates, which provide modest tax relief to 99.7% of residents in her community:

“Middle-class families in my community, some of whom live paycheck to paycheck, should not have to face the burden of Illinois’ unfair income tax structure. Today, I voted to much-needed tax relief to nearly every resident in my community and require the ultra-wealthy to pay their fair share.

“While this measure provides needed income tax relief for the middle class, we must do more to address the issue of skyrocketing property taxes. This measure also includes property tax credits and creates the Property Tax Relief Task Force to help further relieve pressure on local families and seniors. I remain committed to continue working to build a stronger Illinois by building a stronger middle class.”
