SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, issued the following statement regarding the Fair Tax amendment:

“As I walk door-to-door talking with people in our communities, I hear how our families bear too much of a burden. Income taxes, property taxes, health care costs and other expenses are hitting middle-class families hard. A Fair Tax amendment is a first step toward much-needed relief. By making the wealthiest pay a little more, a Fair Tax enables us to balance the budget and invest in critical resources like schools and health care – all while providing relief for 98% of taxpayers in our community.

“There is much more work to be done. This is just one step toward building a stronger Illinois and building a stronger middle class. I look forward to continuing to make income taxes and property taxes fairer, build a stronger economy by expanding training for high-wage jobs, and making health care more affordable for our families.”
