Lilly Backs Fair Tax Amendment, First Step Toward Middle-Class Tax Relief

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Camille Y. Lilly, D-Chicago, issued the following statement after voting to pass a Fair Tax amendment, the first step toward tax relief for 97% of taxpayers:

“Illinois’ middle class bears too much of a burden under the current flat tax system, which forces hardworking families pay the same rate as millionaires and billionaires. The Fair Tax amendment I supported is a first step toward changing this. A Fair Tax would provide relief to 97% of taxpayers across Illinois. This would also help stabilize state finances and invest in critical life-saving services and programs by asking the ultra-wealthy to contribute more to critical services like public schools, health care, senior care and services for individuals with developmental disabilities in our most distressed areas; we represent the heart of the people, and we are honored.”
