Ammons Supports Fair Tax Amendment, Historic First Step Toward Tax Relief for Middle-Class Families

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, issued the following statement after supporting a Fair Tax amendment, a first step toward fairer taxes and relief for 99% of area residents:

“Illinois’ middle-class families pay nearly twice as much of their salary in taxes than millionaires and billionaires. That’s unfair. I voted for a Fair Tax amendment, a first step toward honest, progressive reform that will make the wealthy pay their fair share and provide relief for those who need it most – all while setting our state on more sound financial footing. This is a historic step toward cutting middle-class taxes, holding the 1% accountable, investing in critical services like affordable health care and job training, and moving Illinois forward.”
