SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Illinois House Deputy Majority Leader Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, issued the following statement on the importance of passing a capital infrastructure plan:

“As too many roads and bridges across Illinois reach their usable lifespan and beyond, it is imperative that the state invest in rebuilding and renewing our infrastructure. As America’s central transportation hub, it is critical that our state have modern infrastructure in order to build a stronger economy and empower businesses to grow in Illinois. Without rebuilding our roads, bridges, and other infrastructure, Illinois will not be able to compete in the modern interconnected economy.

“But an infrastructure plan isn’t just about investing in roads and bridges, it’s also about investing in our state’s workers. With a strong capital infrastructure plan, Illinois has a unique opportunity to provide good, skilled jobs to workers and train new skilled workers from communities suffering high underemployment and unemployment. More than ever, Illinois needs an infrastructure plan to connect workers to jobs, power business growth, and help lift up communities across our state.”

Gordon-Booth represents the 92nd District, which includes Bartonville, Bellevue, Peoria, Peoria Heights, and West Peoria.
