CHICAGO – State Rep. Lamont Robinson, Jr., D-Chicago, is standing up to Donald Trump’s extreme attacks on our health care by supporting legislation that will protect care for individuals with pre-existing conditions.

“Protecting coverage for pre-existing conditions is not only a top priority of mine, but it’s a non-negotiable aspect of our health care today,” said Robinson. “The president is putting millions at risk by playing political games in Washington and it is unacceptable. Health care is a basic human right, and I will continue to fight to protect it.”

Robinson is supporting Senate Bill 2026, which prevents Illinois from applying for waivers the Trump administration is pushing to undermine patient protections. The state would not be able to enter into waivers that would eliminate protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions without explicit approval of the General Assembly.

“The reality of the situation is that if your pre-existing condition is not covered by your insurance, you will either pay a small fortune or be denied care altogether,” said Robinson. “While the president and his allies take aim at the most vulnerable members of our community, I will take every measure possible to ensure that our access to health care is protected.”
