SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. LaToya Greenwood, D-East St. Louis, issued the following statement Thursday after a press conference calling for support for safety net hospitals serving Illinois’ most vulnerable communities:

“Safety net hospitals serve our state’s most disenfranchised and at-risk communities, providing critical access to health care services to those who lack insurance coverage. Health care is a human right, and it is essential that we take action so all Illinoisans receive the care they need.

“I am proud to stand alongside leaders of the health care industry and other dedicated public officials to demand the availability of adequate resources to ensure these hospitals can serve those under their care.

“We cannot afford to sit back on behalf of our most vulnerable communities when they are counting on us to stand up for essential health care services.”
