SPRINGFIELD, Ill.  – State Rep. Camille Y. Lilly, D-Chicago, recently met with members of the American Cancer Society at their 2019 Cancer Action Network Day at the Capitol to discuss advocacy efforts for cancer prevention in Illinois.

“I am proud to work with the American Cancer Society to prevent cancer in Illinois through critical measures like Tobacco 21, which was recently signed into law by Governor J.B. Pritzker,” said Lilly. “But even with Tobacco 21, there is so much more we can do to raise awareness of cancer and to help promote healthy lifestyles and cancer prevention measures through research and advocacy.”

Advocates participating in the 2019 Cancer Action Network Day at the Capitol including American Cancer Society partners from the American Heart Association, American Lung Association and the Respiratory Health Association thanked Lilly for her work to pass Tobacco 21 to reduce teen smoking and tobacco use. Additionally, Lilly and advocates from discussed access to health care, cancer prevention, research funding, and further ways to reduce smoking and tobacco use in Illinois.

“I’d like to thank Representative Lilly for her work on passing Tobacco 21 for Illinois and her tireless advocacy for people’s health above big tobacco companies,” said Shana Crews, Director of Government Relations for the American Cancer Society. “Illinois should continue being a leader for public health and people’s health care so the rest of the nation can follow its example.”
