BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – In an effort to make Illinois safer, state Rep. Daniel Didech, D-Buffalo Grove, is inviting residents to participate in his Commonsense Gun Laws Citizens’ Advisory Committee on commonsense gun laws on Sunday, May 19 in Buffalo Grove.

“Gun violence is one of the most pressing issues in America today, and I am committed to passing laws that keep guns off our streets and out of the hands of dangerous individuals,” said Didech. “I want to talk to members of the community about what they need to feel safe and secure in their neighborhoods.”

Didech will be joined by special guest Sara Knizhnik, an organizer for the Illinois Coalition Against Handgun Violence. The advisory committee will meet on Sunday, May 19 at 2:30 p.m. in the Omni Room of the Vernon Township Community Service Building, located at 2900 N. Main St. in Buffalo Grove. Didech hopes this will be an opportunity to talk about what gun reform measures have been introduced in the General Assembly this legislative session, and collect ideas on what he can do in the future.

“Last year Illinois succeeded in lengthening the waiting period for firearms purchases. This year, legislation is being discussed to fix our FOID system,” said Didech. “Every year we need to take a step towards more safety and security. Meeting with the community is where those ideas begin to take shape.”
