SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A proud Veteran of the U.S Marine Corps, Chair of the House Veterans Affairs Committee and member of numerous Veterans organizations, state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Aurora, was recently appointed to the Illinois Joining Forces Foundation for her tireless work advocating for Veterans in the State of Illinois.

“It is our job to ensure the brave men and women who have served our country, along with their families, receive the services and support they need. We are still seeing record numbers of Veteran Suicide, homelessness and unemployment for Veterans and it is unacceptable,” said Kifowit. “As a Veteran myself, I understand their needs and I know we could do much better as a state, especially for our female Veterans, to provide for those who have risked everything for our freedom.”

The Illinois Joining Forces Foundation (IJF) was launched in 2012 through an inter-governmental agreement between the Illinois Departments of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) and Military Affairs (IDMA). The IJF is a statewide, public-private network of military and Veteran serving organizations working together to improve services for current and former service members and their families in Illinois. Their mission is to support a statewide collaborative network of public and private stakeholders that improve the growth and wellness of service members, Veterans and their families.

Kifowit has served our country as a United States Marine during Desert Storm, is currently the chair of the House Veterans’ Affairs committee and has been a strong advocate for Veterans since taking office in 2013.

“I am grateful and humbled by this opportunity to serve on the Illinois Joining Forces Foundation board,” said Kifowit. “This wonderful organization provides for our Veterans, and especially our female Veterans, and I am honored to be a part of the effort and excited to hit the ground running.”
