SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, is encouraging teens and young adults to apply for summer jobs and internships through One Summer Chicago (OSC).

“OSC provides great opportunities for our youth to explore their interests and gain valuable work experience that will benefit them for years to come,” Slaughter said. “For many, this is an opportunity to gain independence and learn important life lessons while earning a paycheck for the first time.”

OSC is a career development program that partners with local businesses, city agencies and community organizations to provide summer employment and internships to Chicago residents between the ages of 16 and 24. The program also aims to help youth establish responsible spending habits and learn the basics of keeping a bank account. In 2018, OSC provided career development opportunities to over 32,000 teens and young adults at nearly 3,000 worksites across the city. Interested residents should visit www.onesummerchicago.org/SummerJobs/ to apply. The application deadline is May 20, 2019.

“A summer job has a long-lasting impact on the lives of teens, and can help them develop important life skills while preparing them for future employment,” Slaughter said. “I encourage all Chicago teens and young adults to submit an application and begin a path to a brighter future.”
