MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. – To raise awareness and celebrate the accomplishments of those with autism, state Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Northbrook, is working with the Mount Prospect Library and local officials to honor Dr. Charles J. Smith, a renowned pianist who lives with autism.
“Many people are unaware of the struggles people with autism face each day, and I want to help address the stigma that surrounds it,” Carroll said. “This particular event will help show people that a prosperous life can be achieved, no matter the obstacle. It is my hope that people will continue to think about how others live with disorders and how they overcome them.”
Carroll will be partnering with state Sen. Julie Morrison, Congressman Brad Schneider and the Mt. Prospect Public Library to host a Thriving with Autism event for Dr. Charles J. Smith. Dr. Smith is an avid pianist who lives with autism. He has created over 500 compositions throughout his life, including his own interpretations of Chopin and Liszt.
