ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, in conjunction with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Avon Township, will be hosting a Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27 at the Avon Township Building, located at 433 E. Washington St. in Round Lake Park. The event is an opportunity for all residents to safely get rid of all unneeded and expired medication.

“Unused prescription pills that are not disposed of properly can be dangerous if someone else in the household takes the medication,” said Yingling. “The opioid crisis has taken a major toll on many of our local communities, and holding a Drug Take Back Day is just one of the many ways to combat this issue.”

According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs, and the majority of those drugs were obtained through friends and family, often being taken without anyone ever knowing. To combat this problem, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) partners with local law enforcement agencies every year to provide sites where medication can be safely disposed of.

“Providing communities with safe ways to dispose of their medication can help prevent those medications from finding their way into the wrong hands,” said Yingling. “I am committed to doing everything in my power to be a part of the solution when it comes to solving this epidemic.”

For more information on this event, please call Yingling’s District Office at 847-231-6262 or email repsamyingling@gmail.com.
