EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – To update local administrators, educators and parents on new legislation that will affect students and the education field, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, will host her next Education Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Wednesday, April 24 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Edwardsville Public Library, located at 112 S. Kansas St.

“There have been numerous pieces of legislation related to education that I would like to have a conversation about with local stakeholders,” Stuart said. “For example, House Bill 2078 to raise teachers’ minimum salaries just advanced to the Senate, and I would like to talk to community members about how that legislation will help combat the teacher shortage in Illinois.”

This event is free and open to the public, and Rep. Stuart encourages anyone with school-aged children to attend. Numerous topics relating to education have been deliberated at the Capitol this year, such as school funding, addressing the teacher shortage and student mental health. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and share ideas for future legislation.

“I hold Education Citizens’ Advisory Committee meetings as often as I can because as legislation is developed and strategies are changed year to year, feedback from educators, administrators and parents is vital to ensure the best interest of students,” Stuart continued. “I look forward to having a discussion with community members about the best ways to address challenges in the education field.”
