SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. LaToya Greenwood, D-East St. Louis, addressed local residents and guests at the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute this week to discuss legislative proposals and challenges facing the state.

“During the budget impasse under the previous administration, higher education and many other social services overseen by the state faced unprecedented challenges,” Greenwood said.

“While the process of bringing these services back into the fold has begun, it will take time and good-faith negotiations from both sides to get things back up to speed.”

Greenwood addressed guests at the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale on Monday. SIU faculty and other local guests attended the discussion. Topics discussed ranged from higher education, social services, and women’s issues among others.

“As elected officials, we represent diverse districts with unique challenges,” Greenwood said. “I am committed to working with my colleagues to pursue our shared goals in continuing to move the state forward.”
