SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, is promoting higher education by encouraging local students to apply for the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
“With rising costs of attending college, students are choosing between pursuing a college education and entering the workforce,” said Slaughter. “This scholarship is designed to help students afford attending college and make investments in themselves, their communities and their families.”
Slaughter is a member of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation (ILBCF), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing, advancing, and promoting the interests of the African American community in Illinois. To be eligible for the ILBCF Scholarship, a student must be an Illinois resident seeking an undergraduate degree and be currently enrolled in or been accepted to an accredited institution of higher education including community colleges, public and private colleges and universities and certified vocational training programs. Eligible students should visit www.ilbcf.org/copy-of-scholarship-application to apply. The deadline to submit an application is May 9, 2019.
“Advancing and promoting higher education is one of my top priorities as a member of the General Assembly,” said Slaughter. “I am dedicated to helping my constituents achieve their goals, and the ILBCF Scholarship is a great opportunity for students seeking to further their education.”
