SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Responding to an attack on women’s health care proposed by President Donald Trump, state Rep. Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville, supports legislation in opposition.

“The health and well-being of women throughout our state must be a top priority,” said Edly-Allen. “President Trump’s proposal is an attack on every women’s right to access affordable health care services, such as cervical cancer screening, sexually transmitted infection prevention and family planning services.”

Title X is a federal grant program for health care clinics that provide services like sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention, early screening for cervical cancer and other family planning services. Edly-Allen is co-sponsoring House Resolution 204 to urge the Department of Health and Human Services to overturn Trump’s proposal rendering clinics that perform abortion services ineligible for federal funding and prohibit doctors from giving referrals for abortion services.

“I refuse to let extreme politicians like President Trump undo years of progress made to advance women’s rights and equality,” said Edly-Allen. “I will continue to fight until protecting the health and well-being of every woman in our state is not threatened.”
