SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Kathy Willis, D-Northlake, recently met with members of the Associated Firefighters of Illinois (AFFI) and the Village of Lombard’s local 3009 firefighter union to advocate for legislation benefitting Illinois’ first responders and honor their selfless work for their communities.

“Firefighters do so much to protect families across Illinois, and I want to honor their sacrifices,” Willis said. “Every local firefighter departments deserves the resources they need to keep our communities safe.”

Willis joined members of AFFI and Lombard’s Local 3009 to promote legislative action during the firefighter’s annual lobby day efforts in Springfield last week.

In the House, Willis is the chair of the Fire Caucus whose goal is to advocate on behalf of Illinois’ firefighters best interests. She is currently sponsoring legislation, House Bill 841, which makes it a crime to cause serious harm to a first responder.

“It is my hope that lawmakers in both the House and Senate continue to work together to enact legislation that strengthens local fire departments,” Willis said. “Firefighters put their lives on the line every day without hesitation, and we have an obligation to recognize their heroism.”
