SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Following her appointment to the Illinois House of Representatives, state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, released the following statement:

“As I follow in the footsteps of my predecessor and strong Latina leader Linda Chapa LaVia, I am focused on continuing the work she started to advocate for our community’s needs and make Illinois a better place for all.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Illinois House of Representatives as well as residents of my district to help provide quality education, fund critical services, bring real property tax relief to local homeowners and especially to lift up our Latino and African American communities.

“I am committed to protecting our community from the bigotry of Donald Trump and his allies and pushing for policies that protect our families and provide equal opportunities for all. I am ready to work hard to ensure that our community’s needs are met and that no one is left without a voice in Springfield.”
