SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, is supporting a resolution calling for expanded access to high-quality preschool and early education for children and increased funding to help build and renovate preschool classrooms across Illinois.

“Early access to quality education makes a significant difference later in one’s life,” said Slaughter. “Providing more funding for early childhood education facilities in our state will help children get a head start on a path to success.”

Slaughter’s House Resolution 87 was drafted after a survey conducted by the Illinois State Board of Education revealed the need for over 200 more preschool classrooms across the state. This legislation urges Illinois lawmakers to dedicate at least $250 million from state bond sources for early childhood building and renovation projects. Slaughter is dedicated to providing quality education to all children in Illinois and is supporting this legislation to continue his advocacy for increased school funding.

“Schools at every level in Illinois suffered over the last four years, and our early childhood education programs were often ignored,” continued Slaughter. “With House Resolution 87, my colleagues and I stand together in making it clear to teachers and the people of Illinois that we hold education as our top priority.”
