SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – After Governor J.B. Pritzker presented his budget proposal to the Illinois General Assembly, state Rep. Kelly Burke, D-Oak Lawn, released the following statement:

“After four years of devastation to our state’s schools, social service agencies and working families under the Rauner administration, the optimistic budget address that Governor Pritzker shared today is a breath of fresh air.

“As an assistant majority leader, I’m looking forward to working with my Democratic and Republican colleagues to negotiate a budget that maintains our commitment to fully funding education and helps our state universities rebuild after years of neglect. I believe we can pass a balanced budget that will help our state recover from the budget crisis. By moving forward with Governor Pritzker’s proposal to implement a graduated income tax we will have the ability to lower the tax burden for middle-class families in the future.”

Burke serves the 36th Representative District, which contains parts of Chicago’s Beverly, Mt.
